Good Food and Wine Show Melbourne 2012

Before Twistos peddle their delicious thrill of hot deep-fried twirls on sticks at every market and bazaar one goes to this year, they were at the last Good Food and Wine Show. We thought it was a novelty and destined for street food staple fare, but we did not anticipate the long queues at every Chinese New Year and any market-themed event. Now the concept has spawned off several quick-to-follow copycats. To say that the Good Food and Wine Show is a barometer for upcoming food trends is an understatement.

Of course, my highlight for last year was Poh. I love her show, Poh's Kitchen on ABC. Watching her in action, she is just as giggly, personable and chatty as she appears on TV. Some might argue there were other Masterchef contestants who were better in technique than Poh, but imagine watching boring personalities drone on for half an hour. I liken it to a dry lecture in an interesting topic by a boring professor. This year, the bubbly Maggie Beer and her verjuice is who I really want to see, not to forget the Lifestyle Food Chef's Table.

This year, I'm hoping to snare some value-for-money showbags and discover new food trends. I heard Careme Pastry is going to be there, which I'm excited about. I love their chocolate short-crust pastry, not to mention their brilliant really puffy puff pastry. Go to David Jones if you can't find any in your local gourmet deli. My good neighbour, who is the distributor for Vintec wine and beer fridges here, will be exhibiting as well. I've got one of their fridges and it looks good at night with a blue LED light and in the day with their sleek design. I'll be happy to check out their wares. Let's hope the hubby stay calm over their beer fridges.

For every foodie out there, it's worth checking out what's at the Good Food and Wine Show this year. So do go and I hope to see you there!
